2021 Ammos Terra Leone – 2021 Ammos Terra Leone – 100% Agiorgitiko (Saint George -Variety)

Rich and refined, with aromas of red and black forest fruits, herbs, baked raisons and spice, followed by rich flavours of plum red cherry, and blackberry, along with spicy pepper and vanilla notes. A deep, intense, delicious wine that is an ideal expression of the variety’s typical characteristics. Its complex and expressive bouquet brings together black fruit, black cherries, sour cherries, and raspberries, balanced with liquorice, coffee, vanilla essence, roasted nuts, and chocolate. The mouthfeel is lusciously, dense, and rich with a delightful lingering aftertaste.

Enjoy with juicy red meat served with spicy sources are you for spicy Indian cuisine and some smoked cheese.Serve at: 16 °C–18 °C

Climate

Mediterranean climate: hot and dry summer days in contrast with cool nights, cold and wet winter. Yearlong north wind from the Corinthian gulf.

Soil

Sandy, enhanced with limestone and of excellent drainage. Ammos in Greek meaning sand.

Terrain

20 years old privately owned parcel Privately owned, Kokkinies & Stefani in Ancient Nemea , altitude 460m Gradient etc

3,5 ha privately owned parcel with a 12% incline and excellent drainage. Irrigation system installed and water stress is applied.

Tradition

Certification in organic viticulture

Predominantly dry grown ,water stress the vines, Hand Picked grapes

Use of special viticulture techniques by applying the newest and most improved methods, aiming further development of Agiorgitiko variety.

Vinification: De-stemming without crushing

5 days cold maceration at 8 °C and then traditional red vinification using total extraction time at 24 days. Half quantity in open tanks and half in closed tanks.

Aging:

Aged in 225 Lt new French oak barrels and 400L & 600 Lt clay Amphorae

Matured :14 months in amphorae and new oak barrels,

30% of  the Agiorgitiko was  aged in amphorae and 70% of Agiorgitiko in French oak barrels.

Aging potential of 20 years.

Nemea region is the biggest undivided PDO zone in Greece and the Balkans. Agiorgitiko is a red Greek wine grape variety that as of 2012 was the most widely planted red grape variety in Greece ahead of Xinomavro. Agiorgitiko has been cultivated in Nemea for more than 3000 years. The history and wine tradition of the region, as well as the wide range of microclimates and mosaic of soil can host indigenous and international varieties and bring the best of their character. The most exceptional Agiorgitiko wines are full bodied reds from Nemea.
